Caring for Children with ASD and the Importance of Intersectionalities

In Canada, approximately one in 66 children are affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder. Apart from understanding how the condition may affect an individual, it is also essential to understand the impact of intersecting identities on an autistic individual. At the Geneva Centre for Autism, we work closely with families to learn how BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), individuals with ASD are being affected in their day-to-day lives.

For BIPOC individuals on the spectrum, barriers could include race, colour, cultural difference, religion, etc., that play a part in the treatment. The unconscious biases can put the kids at risk of improper treatment. At GCA, our clinicians prioritize diversity and inclusion in their treatment plans. Read more about our initiative here:
