Lois Alderson-Wigelius

Lois Alderson-Wigelius is an educator within the York Region District School Board.  Her 25 years of teaching experience have found her fulfilling a variety of roles across numerous settings, including Core French Teacher, Classroom Teacher, Special Education Resource Teacher, Teacher on the Regional Autism Team, and Special Education Consultant.  Currently, Lois is the Regional Special Education Consultant—Autism Spectrum Disorders, with the primary responsibility of supporting the professional development of teachers who are new to working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders in partially integrated settings. 

Training has consisted of a number of opportunities including large group PD sessions, 1:1 IEP sessions, coaching and mentoring, facilitated visits to Demonstration classrooms, to name a few.   Lois has co-written and taught Additional Qualification Courses for the York Region District School Board, and most recently co-taught Teaching Students with Communication Needs (Autism Spectrum Disorder) for the York Region District School Board.  Lois is a previous recipient of the Council for Exceptional Children—York Region Educational Leader of the Year Award.  Lois is the proud parent of an 18 year old son with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
