The Provincial Child Care Support Program was a three-year training initiative funded by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services. This training program was designed for Resource Teachers and Home Visitors who are working with licensed child care centres and home-based child care in Ontario. The program included on-site training, e-learning, and mentorship and coaching.
On March 31, 2009, Geneva Centre for Autism successfully completed its mandate to train more than 1,000 Resource Teachers and Home Visitors in Ontario.
Components of Child Care Support Program
1) Core Curriculum
The core curriculum was a two day training session called "From Survival to Success: Practical Classroom Strategies”. This curriculum is being offered to every resource teacher in Ontario. The Centre also offerered a series of electives to all participants in the training. Participants had an opportunity to choose what elective they wanted to take. Please click on the announcement of the next phases of the project for details on how participants accessed the electives.
2) Mentorship and Coaching
Mentorship and coaching were provided to resource teachers/home visitors who participated in the training to assist them to address issues related to children with an ASD as they arise.
3) The E-Learning
The Centre’s E-Learning website provided online access to continuing education on practical classroom strategies and opportunities for discussion forums.
