Many individuals with ASD have difficulty processing auditory information. This workshop will demonstrate the importance of using visual systems to: improve both receptive and expressive communication skills; present instructions; provide structure; organize tasks and the environment; build new skills; teach basic time concepts and help with transitions. Visual systems presented will include schedules, calendars, choice boards, task organizers, first-then boards, “universal no”, in addition to others. Participants will come away with an understanding of how to incorporate visual strategies into a learners day. Information regarding print and web-based resources to develop visuals will be reviewed. Participants will also have the opportunity to develop a plan to create individualized visual systems for their personal use.
