Participants in this workshop will increase their understanding of how the ability to engage in recreational and leisure skills has an important impact on the social communication skills of an adult with an ASD. Through the experience of specific leisure games and activities, requiring a range of abilities, participants will explore the skills required for each activity, the difficulties the adult with an ASD might experience, and the impact these difficulties might have on social communication. Discussion will include practical strategies that would assist the person with an ASD develop these social communication skills. The group will also brainstorm opportunities in their community for adults with an ASD to develop free time and recreational skills.
