Description: When teaching new skills to people with autism, Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) has the longest history of effective evidence-based success. This introductory level workshop will provide an overview of the principles of ABA, highlight how these principles can be applied in everyday settings, and clarify the differences between ABA and Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI). Participants will be introduced to several ABA teaching methods that can be used to develop a wide variety of skills in different settings with different age groups.This workshop will benefit anyone who provides direct support, therapy, or education to individuals with autism spectrum disorder.
Participants will learn about: • Principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) including prompting, reinforcement and generalization • How to apply ABA principles when teaching new skills • Intensive, Natural Environment and Incidental Teaching methods • Data collection techniques
