Description: This workshop takes a deeper look at the nature of sensory processing differences experienced by individuals on the autism spectrum. Participants will gain an understanding of the variations of sensory differences and challenges that may exist. They will also learn what to look for in individuals and their environments in order to identify sources of sensory disruptions and determine the most effective means for addressing them.
Define sensory processing, sensory integration, and sensory diet
Describe hyper- and hypo-reactivity
Discuss the automatic (sensory) function of behaviour
Introduce sensory assessment tools
Describe intervention options from the sensory diet perspective
