This course is designed for Speech-Language Pathologists who are new to or have had limited experience working with individuals with ASD.
This course will provide participants with an understanding of the role the SLP plays in regards to assessment and intervention for individuals with ASD. Content will include the following: an overview of ASD, assessment tools relevant for this population, intervention techniques for receptive, expressive and social communication difficulties, and effective teaching strategies for the learning styles of individuals with ASD. Included in the course will be a half day presentation by an Occupational Therapist to provide an overview of sensory and motor planning profiles of individuals with an ASD and how to consider these in your programming.
This is a 15 hour instructional course occurring over 3 days. Participants will be required to complete an assignment utilizing information gained in the course.
Target Audience: This workshop is limited to Speech Language Pathologists who have had limited experience working with individuals with an ASD. Enrollment is limited to 20 participants.
