Description: Learn about the factors that can impact behaviour in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and how to deal with them. This class will include an investigation into the underlying factors that may have an impact on behaviour including: the characteristics of ASD, neurological differences, communication, anxiety, and sensory processing differences. Participants will be provided with a good overview of behaviour assessment and intervention practices including: functional behaviour assessment and community based positive behaviour support. A variety of assessment tools and evidence-based interventions will be reviewed.
Learning Objectives Participants will:
- Describe the identifying characteristics of autism spectrum disorders
- Appreciate the impact these characteristics have on individuals' behaviours
- List the common functions of behaviour
- Look for triggering and maintaining factors of behaviour
