The Art of RAD Music - Adam Beresford
I’m Adam Beresford, and I’m 25 years old, born and raised in Burlington Ontario. At the age of six, I was diagnosed with a mild case of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). During my early years of childhood, communication and social interaction was a difficult concept and process, so my parents put me through many speech programs, daily activities and summer programs to help me develop these skills.
During elementary school, my main struggles where math and reading comprehension. As I got older throughout the years, I became more and more confident with my social skills and interaction with others. My learning style struggle really began at the age of twelve, mainly because of all the new subjects that were being introduced to me and I just didn’t know how to deal with them. At grade 7, I was placed in a specialized class and my teacher Mr. Faulkner during the time until grade 8 graduation was extremely innovative at getting me to learn the subjects.
At the age of fifteen, I started to develop my real interest and passion for music and playing guitar. Our dad has played drums since he was a teenager and brought a real musical influence to my brother David and me. Classic Rock was always been played while we were growing up and it’s been a great way to encourage me to play with other musicians.
Now, I am gaining success as a musician, composing songs and playing with other musicians, including my brother David (Drummer) and our two great friends, Alex ( Singer, guitarist) and Ruthie ( Pianist, Violinist) who met in the Hamilton Autism Community. Gaining recognition is always as important to me, especially since everyone in our band is on the ASD spectrum and can play multiple instruments. This message will show the positive aspects and talents of Autism.
