He also works as a sound therapist, astrologer, photographer and teaches how to work with sound and music as a healing tool. Michael was diagnosed with autism at age 3 and has been blessed and challenged by its many symptoms all his life. Through understanding, support, and much inner work Michael has found a way to not only cope, but shine in his so called difficulties.
Music and photography became his obsessions, and later his career. Through his art Michael has found both an avenue of self-healing and connection to the outside world as well as a way to help others heal. He is president of The Autism Acceptance Project.
This multimedia presentation is a colorful window into the world of autism. Michael will touch upon his personal challenges growing up on the autism spectrum and how these challenges can now also be seen in another perspective as abilities, even talents. Michael will share his music and photography which all stems from what could have once been called stims, coping strategies and obsessions but now are the classic symptoms of an artist. He will touch upon his day to day sensory issues and how he’s learned to go beyond coping into understanding which has turned so called negative symptoms into positive talents. Through his hard won communication skills, gentle spirit and unique perspectives he will help us to experience and understand the inner workings of an autistic mind.
