Susan E. Bryson PhD holds the Craig Chair in Autism Research at Dalhousie University and the IWK Health Centre in Halifax. She received a PhD in Clinical Psychology from McGill University, and before coming to Dalhousie she was Head and Clinical Director of the Developmental-Clinical Program at York University and Founding Director of the Autism Research Unit at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Dr. Bryson’s research focuses on mechanisms of attention, emotion and cognition in ASD, and on the early detection and treatment of ASD. She is on the editorial boards of Autism, Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders and Journal on Developmental Disabilities. She has consulted to the Public Health Agency of Canada, the US Centers of Disease Control and the NS Departments of Health, Education, and Social Services; she recently completed a review of education practices throughout the four Atlantic provinces in Canada; and she is Provincial Clinical Leader for the newly developed Nova Scotia Early Intervention Program for young children with autism.
Dr. Bryson has a long-standing history of training students, professionals and parents, and of consulting to various community agencies. She recently received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for her contributions to the autism community, a Distinguished Professional Award from the NS Department of Health, and Canada’s Professional of Distinction Discovery Award for world-class researchers who have demonstrated the social and/or economic benefit of their work to society.
