Dr. Linmarie Sikich is a board certified child and adolescent psychiatrist who is an Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, in Division TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and related other Communication-handicapped CHildren) and the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She initiated the TEACCH Medical Consultation Clinic, whose goal is to facilitate the integration of biomedical, behavioral and educational treatments for individuals with autism spectrum disorders. She has also participated in several psychopharmacologic clinical trials for individuals with autism funded by the federal government, Autism Speaks and individual pharmaceutical companies. Within the NIH-funded STAART (Studies to Advance Autism Research and Treatment) Psychopharmacology Network, she has played a leadership role and led an important study examining early psychopharmacologic intervention. She is currently active in two trials co-sponsored by autism speaks.
She has served as a reviewer of research proposals to the MIND Institute, which strives to develop better treatments for neurodevelopmental disorders, Autism Speaks, and is currently a member of the National Institute of Mental Health ITVG Study Section that reviews the scientific merit of research applications evaluating both behavioral and pharmacologic interventions for childhood psychiatric disorders including autism. Dr. Sikich has written book chapters and/or reviews on existing and potential pharmacologic interventions in autism. She served on the independent evidence review panel which consulted to the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council about the strength of the evidence supporting treatments proposed for coverage by Pennsylvania’s Autism Treatment Mandate. She is committed to improving interventions for people with autism.
