Building Independence in Your Teen - Part 1

This 2 part workshop will focus on providing research based teaching methods suited for parents of children 12 to 18 years old with ASD. Strategies for developing socially significant skillsets such as hoursework, academic tasks, vocational skills, and independent living skills will be discussed, as well as the role of person-centered planning in selecting and meeting individual goals. The use of self-monitoring strategies and behaviour contracts will also be discussed as methods to increase an individual's skills and motivation to perform learned tasks independently as he or she transitions into adulthood.
