Leader in Training

The Leader in Training (L.I.T.) program is a curriculum based program that focuses on developing leadership, independence and teamwork skills, and leads to the development and increase of pre-vocational skills for youth with autism. The participants will get the opportunity to get hands on experience volunteering in the recreational programs, in addition to being provided leadership development workshops. Upon completion of this program, participants will receive a certificate.

Secret Agent Society

This program is designed to improve the emotional regulation and social skills of children with High-Functioning Autism using high-tech computer games and Secret Agent related equipment. Group sessions consist of a variety of therapeutic games and activities, training children to be Secret Agent “Cadets,” who are able to detect emotions, decode sticky social situations, and rely on Secret Agent Codes to  enhance their friendship skills. Parents remain onsite and attend a facilitator-led parent session, where they will review program content, and develop strategies to generalize the skills being taught through the program. Ready, Set, Breathe

This group’s primary focus is to explore a wide range of emotions in ourselves and in our peers, leading to increased emotional awareness, and improving peer interaction. Individuals in this group will develop a greater understanding of: how positive or negative emotions impact social situations, how our bodies change according to the emotions we feel, what strategies we can use to adapt our emotions according to the social context.

Trailblazers

This group will begin to navigate the local community on foot in this exciting new adventure program. The participants will learn how to use Google maps to plan a trip with the group to a local attraction and explore the local parks and trails. Participants will learn to work together as a group to reach a common goal. Let’s hit the streets! This program is offered in the evening and on the weekend.For extra  weekend dates, check out The Weekenders!

Wii League of Friends

This group provides participants with the opportunity to engage in motion-control, interactive gaming with peers who share similar interests. The Wii League of Friends will practice turn taking, co-operation and good sportsmanship skills.

Easy Fixing

Participants will learn about nutrition and healthy eating habits, food storage and preparation as well as kitchen safety. Through modelling, rehearsal, games and activities, participants will learn to prepare menus, grocery lists, and will go to local grocery stores weekly to purchase items for the cooking activity.

Sports with Friends

This sport focused skill building group is designed as a bridging program for children with autism spectrum disorder to strengthen existing social skills in a program that features a variety of sports activities and games. Participants are supported to build selfconfidence free from external pressure of competition while building physical awareness and being part of a team.

Crafty Creations

Using a variety of materials and activities, participants will be encouraged and guided through an exploration of their creative talents. Each week participants will engage in different activities such as drawing, painting, play dough, music, dance, dress-up and a variety of seasonal crafts and activities.

Trips Ahoy

Participants will engage in a variety of activities including sports, crafts, outings, creative arts and drama. Trained Geneva Centre for Autism staff will structure activities and outings to meet the needs of children on the autism spectrum. At Trips Ahoy, every day is an adventure!

Rec'In Crew

Participants will engage in a variety of activities including, sports, crafts, outings, creative arts and drama. Participants will be placed in a group with their similar peers. Group activities provide the children with opportunities to meet their individualized gross motor, fine motor and sensory needs while encouraging communication, socialization and discovery.

Sports of all Sorts

Participants will be introduced to a variety of sports and  movement activities that are designed to encourage group co-operation, teamwork and build self-esteem in a fun, safeenvironment.

The Kids Club

Participants work toward developing recreation and leisure skills in a safe and fun environment. Participants will be engaged in theme-based activities which encourage discovery, communication and socialization. This program is offered on Saturday and Sunday for 10 sessions from September to June. If you are interested in adding more weekend days, check out The Weekenders! Please note that that your child must be between 9-12yrs old to apply for this program. Check out the Weekenders if your child is 6 or younger.

The Explorers

Participants in the Explorers group are supported to develop recreation and leisure skills where they will eventually be able to transition to less supported community-based programs. Participants will be engaged in theme-based activities which  encourage discovery, communication and socialization. This program is offered on Saturday and Sunday for 10 sessions from September to December. If you are interested in adding more weekend days, check out The Weekenders!

The Weekenders

While attending The Weekenders, children and youth will have the opportunity to develop recreational and leisure skills, build new relationships and be part of an inclusive recreational community.Participants will have the opportunity to rehearse these skills in a variety of community settings including trips to the pool, local parks and other local age appropriate attractions. This program is offered every Saturday and Sunday from Sept 20 – Dec 20th for 13 weeks. This program can be combined with your funded weekend spot.
