Job description:

Reporting to the Manager of Operations, the IT Administrator’s role is to ensure the streamlined operation of the IT Department in alignment with the business objectives of the organization.  This individual will plan, coordinate, direct and design IT related activities of the organization as well as provide administrative direction and support for daily operational activities of the IT department.  The IT administrator will work closely with decisions makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop implement and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.  This person will assist with defining and implementing IT policies, procedure and best practices.

Role Accountabilities:
•Manages the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrading, and support of all IT systems, including servers, PCs, operating systems, hardware, software, and peripherals
•Provides end-user services, including help desk and technical support services.
•Works with stakeholders to define business and systems requirements for new technology implementations
•Researches potential technology solutions in support of procurement efforts
•Keeps current with the latest technologies
•Practices asset management for IT hardware, software, and equipment
•Benchmarks, analyses, reports on, and makes recommendations for the improvement and growth of the IT infrastructure and IT systems
•Develops business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives
•Assists with the development and implementation all IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, and service provision
•Troubleshoots and resolves all hardware and software problems and failures
•Commissions and deploys new equipment.  Re-tasks existing equipment as necessary
•Plans and manages system backups according to Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity Planning (BCP) policies to ensure the backup of data is comprehensive and current.  Tests the backup capabilities on a regular basis
•Drafts technical instructions/guides in plain language for end-users.
•Creates and implements system/application setup and software installation and best practice guidelines and procedures
•Provides hands-on training as required
•Evaluates, updates and implements all current programs/applications and databases including licenses
•Works with external IT consultants and vendors, as needed
•Generates reports to monitor security and internet usage and recommend  any action required.

Qualifications required:

Requirements to be considered for the role:

•University degree or (2-year) Community College program in computer science
•3-5 years experience overseeing multiple networks and services and a high level of understanding of firewalls
•Cisco or other industry standard network security certification preferred
•Microsoft Certifications(s) or equivalent – demonstrated continuous professional development
•Experience with Virtuality, Veritas, ACCPAC, Symantec, Fortinet, Windows Servers 2003 or higher, Exchange servers, VoIP
•Proven experience in IT infrastructure planning and development
•In-depth knowledge of application data privacy practices and laws
•Experience in a not-for-profit setting preferred
•Bilingualism is an asset.
