Autism Intervener Certificate Training Program Level 2:
Understanding, Supporting and Teaching Individuals with Asperger Syndrome
This is a six part series certificate course (15 instructional hours)
Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of individualized program development and delivery for people with Asperger Syndrome. Presentation style will be interactive and include case studies, lecture, large and small group discussion, video and article reviews. Weekly topics will include baseline assessment, goals and strategies, visual supports, evaluation and resource review for the learning and behavioural characteristics of individuals with Asperger Syndrome. Educational best practices, environmental design, transition and service delivery models will be discussed. The Ministry of Education document “Education for All” will be referenced throughout the course. Participants will be required to complete a self-evaluation as well as a series of written and oral assignments. The final assignment will focus on the development of an individual profile.
To successfully complete this course, participants must have received an AIC Level 1 Certificate from Geneva Centre for Autism, currently work or live with an individual with Asperger Syndrome (or a very able individual with autism), attend all sessions and satisfactorily complete all assignments. Contingent upon this criteria, participants will receive a certificate stating that they have completed the Autism Intervener Certificate Training Program – Level 2: Understanding, Supporting and Teaching Individuals with Asperger Syndrome. This course is limited to 20 participants.
