Dr. Ruth Aspy and Dr. Barry Grossman (1 minute 30 seconds)

The Ziggurat Model, developed by Drs. Aspy and Grossman, is a guide for designing comprehensive intervention plans for individuals of all ages with Autism Spectrum  Disorders.

The Ziggurat approach centers on a five level system, structured in a hierarchy. Each level represents an area that must be addressed in order for an intervention plan to be comprehensive and effective. The premise of the Ziggurat Model is that an individual’s underlying needs and characteristics related to ASD (as well as their strengths) must be identified by a support team and addressed as part of the planning process. Assessment tools to facilitate this process will be introduced. At the conclusion of this training session participants will be able to:

  • Recognize strategies with empirical support
  • Select appropriate strategies for an individual
  • Address underlying needs through comprehensive interventions
