Session: Session 15

Special Session for Physicians Only

Outline of Presentation

This session is designed specifically for physicians and those working directly in the medical field who devise treatment plans for individuals with an ASD.  MDs, renowned in the field, will provide compelling evidence form their own clinical practices outlining the importance of integrating the sciences.  In 2008 it is recognized that both behavioural and biomedical approaches need to be employed in the treatment plan for individuals with an ASD.  This session will highlight the need for a comprehensive integrative medical approach to this complex disorder.  The presenters will highlight the critical viewpoints of neurology, paediatrics, paediatric gastroenterology and other childhood medical issues that must be investigated in the treatment of individuals with an ASD while incorporating a behavioural approach to skill development.
