Session: Session 14

Outline of Presentation

Children and youth with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) have dramatically increased over the past decade.  These students are significantly challenging the skills and resources of school, families and clinical professionals as well as parents and family members, at least in part because of significant lack of understanding of the disorder and those strategies and methods that have proven most effective in achieving desired outcomes.  Related to their unique characteristics and needs, the success of students with ASD requires use of scientifically-based and specially designed effective methods.  In this connection this workshop will focus on identifying, using and evaluating practices and strategies that are most utilitarian and effective in educating, managing and supporting learners with autism spectrum disorders.  Issues and methods for identifying maximally effective interventions and practices will be addressed.
