Music and Movement Groups for 4-6 Year Olds
Using music and social skills teaching strategies, children learn group skills through music, role-playing, and performance. Children are introduced to, and explore the use of a variety of musical instruments to learn, take turns, and to share experiences and enjoyment with others. All Music and Movement Groups are facilitated by a Music Therapist, a Social Skill-Building Group Facilitator, and supported by a volunteer.
Please note: Prior musical training is not required for any of these groups, however there is a screening process to ensure group compatibility.

Social Playgroups for 5-6 year Olds
By participating in the play-based groups, children learn to greet peers, ask questions of others, compliment others, share and turn-take in a structured, play-based environment. Goals for each child are identified and 1:1 teaching opportunities are offered. A combination of play, conversation, paying attention and coping with change are always components of the playgroups. Specific themes are determined based on the information provided by the parents and generated during the screening appointments. Parents have an opportunity to observe and practice some techniques demonstrated in the group.

Social Skill-Building Groups for 7-8, 9-10 and 11-13 Year Olds
By participating in the Social Skill-Building groups, children are introduced to a variety of skills needed to build and maintain social relationships. Conversation skills, age-appropriate play skills, emotions, attending skills, waiting skills, coping with change, anger management, turn-taking and how to deal with bullying are some of the skills addressed in these groups. Specific themes are determined based on the information provided by the parents and generated during the screening appointments. Each session includes a learning component and an opportunity to use these skills in a variety of environments.

Social Skills and Sports Groups for 7-8, 9-10 and 11-13 Year Olds
By participating in the Social Skills and Sports Groups, children are offered opportunities to participate in a variety of games and team sports, and develop the skills needed to be successful when participating in these activities in the community. Winning and losing, coping with change, personal space and anger management are components of the groups. The curriculum is customized to meet the needs of the children registered in the program. The Sports Club offers participants an opportunity to learn how to follow rules, and how to use effective communication strategies when playing sports and games. Each session will include some classroom teaching to introduce new skills.

Social Skills and Peer Support Groups for 14 to 18 Olds
By participating in a Social Skills and Peer Support Group, participants are offered opportunities to support, and be supported by others of the same age who share common strengths and needs. Common themes include being more independent, transitioning to high-school and other school related topics, making friends, meeting people, and communication skills, along with learning when to most effectively use relaxation strategies. Participants have opportunities to choose among various recreational activities, and discuss topics relevent to their experiences. Social Skills teaching and practice are both part of the program.
