A writer and educator, Kate Duffy has taught at Metropolitan Community College—Penn Valley for 20 years while operating a home-based writing business and raising her two sons who were diagnosed as having sensory integration disorder and Asperger Syndrome.
She also teaches entrepreneurship skills through Kansas City’s First
Step Fund, a micro-business training organization serving low to
moderate-income and underserved populations (15 percent of its clients
have one or more disabilities). For six years, Ms. Duffy wrote a
career and lifelong-learning column for The Kansas City Star and in
2004 coauthored a book with Temple Grandin preparing young people with
special needs for the workplace, Developing Talents: Careers for
Individuals with Asperger Syndrome and High-Functioning Autism.
