Questions to Ask When Considering Any Service for your Child PDF Print
  1. Is there any type of assessment offered to see if my child really needs the service/intervention?
  2. Is there scientific research to prove that this service/intervention works?
  3. Have I read things about this service/intervention not written by people who make a living doing it?
  4. Are there any potential harmful side effects, and have they been clearly explained to me?
  5. Does it conflict with anything I am already doing with my child?
  6. Is there a cost to it? How much (total cost)?
  7. Am I being rushed to make a decision?
  8. Is there a wait? How long?
  9. Is the person providing this service/intervention regulated by or belong to an association? Have they had a completed a police reference check?
  10. What background or experience do you have in the field?
  11. Can this person provide me with three names of other people who provide the same service/intervention?
  12. How can I be involved in the treatment? Can I observe/participate?
  13. How often will the treatment/program be reviewed? Who would be present at this meeting?
  14. How will I know when the intervention is finished?
  15. What happens if I want to stop the intervention?
  16. Would it be possible to speak with other parents who you provide service to?
  17. Would you be comfortable providing a referral for another service provider if after a reasonable period of time, I feel that little progress has been made?
