Questions to Ask When Considering Any Service for your Child |

- Is there any type of assessment offered to see if my child really needs the service/intervention?
- Is there scientific research to prove that this service/intervention works?
- Have I read things about this service/intervention not written by people who make a living doing it?
- Are there any potential harmful side effects, and have they been clearly explained to me?
- Does it conflict with anything I am already doing with my child?
- Is there a cost to it? How much (total cost)?
- Am I being rushed to make a decision?
- Is there a wait? How long?
- Is the person providing this service/intervention regulated by or belong to an association? Have they had a completed a police reference check?
- What background or experience do you have in the field?
- Can this person provide me with three names of other people who provide the same service/intervention?
- How can I be involved in the treatment? Can I observe/participate?
- How often will the treatment/program be reviewed? Who would be present at this meeting?
- How will I know when the intervention is finished?
- What happens if I want to stop the intervention?
- Would it be possible to speak with other parents who you provide service to?
- Would you be comfortable providing a referral for another service provider if after a reasonable period of time, I feel that little progress has been made?
