Dr. Karen Pierce, a research faculty member in the Department of Neuroscience at UCSD, has been in the forefront of autism research for over a decade.
She has investigated a wide range of topics in autism ranging from the behavioral treatment of children with autism to investigations of the neurobiology of the disorder. She has been awarded several research grants and has published numerous book chapters and research articles on the topic of autism. She is an invited speaker, both nationally and internationally, as an expert on the pathogenesis of autism. Her current research interests include discovering the neural underpinnings of social defects in autism, and early detection efforts.
