It was founded in 2005. This database would serve as a bridge between the patients, doctors, researchers and the government. It would provide information on all the possible topic related to autism. This is mainly to create awareness among the people about the disorder. Kennedy Krieger Institute, which is one of the best treatment centers, has taken the responsibility of developing the interactive database. Autism Speaks will be working with it for a period of three years and has also announced an award of $2,266,000 for the first year for the best research done on autism. Mark Roithmayr, president of Autism Speaks said that this was a very good way of initiating innovative research in the disorder. This database would be of great use to the thousands of families across the globe. This database will facilitate in the registration of all the family and other individuals suffering from this disorder. It would provide information about their experiences and sere as a tool for initiating further research. This facilitates the easy online study of the treatment modalities and the prognosis. Chat sessions, member profiles and links to outside autism resources are also planned. Dr. Paul Law of the Kennedy Krieger Institute says that the influence of the society and parents will oversee the development of the resource. The data collection and management processes will be designed with careful attention to confidentiality and medical ethics. |
