Geneva Centre for Autism Foundation is extremely grateful to a group of enterprising young students from Dante Alighieri Academy, West Toronto, who have secured $5000 for the Geneva Centre Campaign for Adults with Autism.

Sarah Moninhas, Alessia Giammarco and Chelsea Paolo were awarded their school’s winning prize as part of the Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI), run by the Toskan Casale Foundation.

Since 2002 the YPI program has encouraged young people

across Canada to learn about philanthropy and the issues facing their own communities. Students in participating schools choose a charity within their community which they research and visit before preparing a proposal that they must present to their classmates. The winning proposal from each school receives $5,000 funding for the designated charity.

Winning students from across Canada were invited to an awards day at Toronto’s Elgin Theatre where they received the cheques for their nominated charities. Hosted by Rick Campanelli of Entertainment Tonight the day offered a wealth of entertainment, including a performance by music star Sean Desmond and an inspiring speech from Ontario’s Premier, Dalton McGuinty.

We are delighted that Sarah, Alessia, Chelsea and Geneva Centre for Autism were voted winners by Dante Alighieri Academy this year. The $5,000 prize will help fund the purchase and renovation of Geneva Centre’s ground-breaking adult services building.

Thank you Dante Alighieri Academy and YPI!
