On Tuesday February 24, 2009 NAIOP, the leading commercial real estate development association hosted its annual awards gala. Over 500 leaders and innovators in the industry converged at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre to recognize excellence within the field and raise money for Geneva Centre for Autism’s Capital Campaign. The proceeds from both last and this year’s awards exceed $160,000 so far and will enhance the lives of youth and adults living with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
This bounteous gift is particularly noteworthy due to our economic climate. Fortunately concerns about the recession did not thwart the commitment of NAIOP president Graeme Young and the generosity of his members.
Our leader Margaret Whelan eloquently summed up the partnership and evening. She commended NAIOP for joining Geneva Centre for Autism in building healthy communities. She also highlighted that this financially challenging time has created an opportunity for us all to realign our resources with our priorities and values. This event exemplifies the value that NAIOP places on supporting the community. They are not only leaders in commercial real estate; they are community builders and a true friend of our organization.
