Position: Board Member for a 2-year renewable term
About the GCA: Our mission is to empower individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and their families, to fully participate in their communities. Our goals include a) building capacity and skills of individuals, families, community agencies and professionals to help individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder realize opportunities for successful community inclusion, b) providing leadership in the development and delivery of services that are marked by excellence and flexibility and are grounded in evidence, and c) raising awareness and understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders and promoting the right of all individuals to be treated with dignity and respect.
Can you contribute to our vision of “successful community inclusion”? If your answer is “YES”, we want to hear from you!
Experience: We will be welcoming new Board members in April 2017. To complement our current roster of experienced Centre Board Members, we are seeking diverse candidates with experience in not-for-profit management, marketing and branding, entrepreneurial business, strategic planning and governance, education and training. A strong business acumen would be considered an asset.
The work of our Foundation Board is critical to the on-going success of the GCA. Through our Foundation, we are able to fund the development of new programming and provide subsidies to families who are struggling with the cost of providing supports for their child. For our Foundation Board, we ask that candidates have experience and interest in fundraising activities, event management, communications and development. If you are action-oriented with a high degree of accomplishment, or are comfortable connecting with people, or if you have a large personal network - we want to hear from you! Our fundraising activities – including our world-renowned Symposium and other highly regarded events – support our activities that do not have a stable funding base.
Expectations: Directors are expected to commit the necessary time to fulfill their duties as a Board member, including attending monthly board meetings, the Annual General Meeting and other special meetings; participating in a board committee (Audit & Finance, Human Resources, Governance, Real Estate).
- Board meetings (typically 10 per year), the Annual General Meeting (AGM), and any committee meetings required take place in the downtown/midtown area of Toronto.
- Meetings and preparation time is about 4 hours per month plus any committee activities.
- Directors are expected to be properly prepared for meetings by reviewing all board materials distributed in advance.
- Directors are expected to include Geneva Centre in their annual charitable financial commitments.
