Position: Board Member for a 2-year renewable term
Seeking: 2 individuals to join our Centre Board and 2 - 3 individuals to join our Foundation Board
About: Our mission is to empower individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and their families, to fully participate in their communities. Our goals include a) building capacity and skills of individuals, families, community agencies and professionals to help individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder realize opportunities for successful community inclusion, b) provide leadership in the development and delivery of services that are marked by excellence and flexibility and are grounded in evidence, and c) to raise awareness and understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders and promote the rights of all individuals to be treated with dignity and respect.
Experience: We will be welcoming new Board members at our Annual General Meeting on September 29, 2016. To complement our current roster of experienced Centre Board Members, we seek diverse candidates with experience in not-for-profit management, sales, marketing and branding, entrepreneurial business, strategic planning and governance, education and training.
For our Foundation Board, we ask that candidates have experience and interest in fundraising activities, event management, communications and development. If you are action-oriented with a high degree of accomplishment, or are comfortable connecting with people, or you have a large personal network - we want to hear from you!
Expectations: Directors are expected to commit the necessary time to fulfill their duties as a board member, including attend monthly board meetings, the Annual General Meeting and other special meetings; participate in a board committee (Audit & Finance, Human Resource, Governance, Real Estate).
• Board meetings (typically 9 per year), the Annual General Meeting (AGM), and any committee meetings required take place in the downtown/midtown area of Toronto.
• Meetings and preparation time is about 4 hours per month plus any committee activities.
• Directors are expected to be properly prepared for meetings by reviewing all advance board materials.
• Directors are expected to include Geneva Centre in their annual charitable financial commitments.
