Major Accomplishments

  • Geneva Centre for Autism is recognized as Canada’s leading service provider in the field of autism.
  • Since our creation in 1974, our direct service capacity has increased from 20 to 3,000 families.
  • More than 18,000 people access our services each year from across Canada and beyond – including direct intervention, conferences, workshops and training sessions, our Reference Collection and Lending System, and contacting us for information.
  • Our Reference Collection is the most extensive autism-related collection in Canada.
  • Geneva Centre for Autism developed recognized standards for social skills training, including an age-specific curriculum.
  • We host the pre-eminent biennial International Symposium on Autism.
  • We have a Professional Advisory Council of internationally renowned leaders in the autism field.
  • In 2002, we expanded our service range to include adult support and transitional services. These services expanded further in 2005 and 2006.
  • In 2002 Geneva Centre for Autism began to provide IBI service for Preschool Children with autism.
    IBI services expanded in 2003, 2005, 2006, and 2007, now serving school aged children too.
  • Geneva Centre for Autism facilitated the development of a network for respite services options, called respiteservices.com, which we now host on behalf of 35 communities across Ontario.
  • We have developed a wide range of partnerships and affiliations with local, national and international service providers.
  • Our annual Summer Training Institute has grown to attract hundreds of educators from around the world, providing them with the skills and knowledge required for a successful school experience for children with autism.
  • We have created a multi-faceted Volunteer Program (1998), which supports in-house programming as well as extending our outreach to other agencies, schools and child care centres that lack adequate support for individuals with autism.
  • Geneva Centre for Autism was instrumental in implementing capacity-building initiatives introduced by the Government of Ontario in 2006.   The Centre successfully completed in 2009 its three-year provincial mandate of training Teachers' Assistants in publicly funded school boards and authorities and Resource Teachers and Home Visitors in licensed child care centres in Ontario.  This is known as the Centre's Provincial Training Initiatives.
  • Geneva Centre for Autism maintains a solid partnership with Ontario's Ministry of Education through the ministry's ongoing investment in the Centre's Summer Training Institute.  This annual training event ensures that publicly funded school boards and authorities' teaching personnel and administrators are provided with training on Autism Spectrum Disorders to achieve successful outcomes for students with an ASD.   The training event also aims to support boards and authorities in the effective implementation of Program Policy Memorandum (PPM) 140.
